In northeastern France and the small town of Neufchatel-Hardelot is reportedly set to conduct a feasibility study early next year regarding the possibility of bringing a new casino to its seaside Hardelot Plage neighborhood.
According to a report from G3Newswire, the English Channel community of some 3,700 people is located about ten miles south of the port city of Boulogne-Sur-Mere and has been a tourist destination ever since the early days of the 20th Century. The source detailed that the area is especially popular with holidaymakers from Paris and already plays host to a pair of upmarket golf courses alongside a tennis complex, numerous hotels and an equestrian sports facility.
Neufchatel-Hardelot is also frequented by numerous British and Belgian tourists while the idea that it should host a casino reportedly gained popularity late last year after the nearby Golden Palace Boulogne-Sur-Mer venue revealed that it had donated some €662,000 ($802,590) to its own host community. The coming viability investigation was purportedly approved by local civic leaders early last month following a large amount of lobbying from mayor Paulette Juilien-Peuvion.
The Pas-De-Calais community is now expected to launch an extensive study before the summer to determine whether it should join Boulogne-Sur-Mer as well as the nearby communities of Le Touquet, Berck and Calais in playing host to a casino. Juilien-Peuvion purportedly pronounced that she is committed to opening a local gambling-friendly facility in keeping with an idea first floated by her predecessor, Jean-Pierre Pont, before the beginning of the global economic recession in 2007.
